The majority must not be allowed to vote on the rights of the minority.

The writer makes the point that certain rights should not be voted upon but simply codified in the law by the legislators.  The question which faces Trinidad and Tobago and many other countries is, what happens when  the legislators hold the same views as the majority and for religious, political and ideological reasons, refuse to codify these basic rights?  Are we not all people, regardless of our beliefs, and therefore entitled to the same rights under the law?

  1. “The majority must not be allowed to vote on the rights of the minority.” Doesn’t this happen in a ‘Democratic” society? Or are we planning to change the definition of Democratic?
